Now that my kids are older and can swim on their on, my time in the pool is waning.  However, I am still in the parenting stage where I have to be at the pool.  This summer was particularly pleasing as I could find a chair in a quiet corner, soak in the sun and “swim with the saints.”

The Chicks love to read!  One of my summer favorites was “My Life with the Saints” by James Martin, SJ.  I found the book to be perfect for a visit to the pool.  Each chapter (about 20 to 30 pages) chronicles a time in the author’s life when he was introduced to a saint by circumstance.  He tells the story and then delves into a short biography of the life of the saint.

Perfect pool reading – one saint for each pool visit.  He details 16 different people ranging from St. Therese of Lisieux to St. Peter to the Ugandan Martyrs.  It made for captivating reading and reflection this summer.
