During my journey into the Catholic Church, I was given a DVD entitled “Common Ground.” It is a video conversation that took place between the leaders of two large churches in Michigan, Father John Riccardo, former priest at St. Anastasia Catholic Church and Pastor Steve Andrews of Kensington Community Church.
In the video, the priest and pastor respectfully examine the similarities and differences between Catholicism and the protestant church. The 90 minute video addresses topics such as salvation, the Virgin Mary, the Eucharist, confession, the saints, evangelism and others. I found it to be so helpful in clearing up the misconceptions that I had about the Catholic Church. Both Catholics and Protestants will find Father John Riccardo’s discernment story fascinating.
I highly recommend this resource for both Catholics and Protestants who seek a greater understanding into each other’s faith.

Precious Catholic Sisters:
First off, I am so happy that I am able to write that now; You see, my wife, daughter & I became Christian (we “joined The Church”) this past Sept. 26. My greatest joy now, not only “in Church” but in life, is the Eucharist. Perhaps I should explain that all of us were “lifelong” Protestants – who got so sick of “looking for a ‘church home’” and feeling let-down, disappointed and, frankly, EMPTY, that literally on a dare and out of sheer spiritual and emotional exhaustion, we “tried” a Catholic Church.
I believe it was quite literally “by the Grace of God” that we were led, via quite new Catholic acquaintances, to attend a “conservative” church. The Spiritual & corresponding emotional experience was not something I could have expected, and in fact did not expect – indeed, I expected much the opposite of what I DID experience. In brief, it was something of a “trying time” for me (but not for my precious 12-year old daughter – she literally took to it like the proverbial “duck to water.” Fortunately, she didn’t have the “emotional baggage” of a lifetime of inculcated suspicion &, well, hate that I had to deal with) and wonderfully beautiful – Spiritually beautiful. OK – enough of all that – now to the point:
I simply wanted to share with you what a joy it is for me to find you & your lovely, “conservative” & (best of all) FEMININE site. Let me explain, BEFORE YOU GET THE WRONG IDEA ABOUT ME, that I cherish the Femininity of your site b/c such has become SO RARE nowadays, and as a male I miss it – truly miss genuine Femininity – SO MUCH. Thank you, thank you so very much.
And lastly, I’ll “bite the bait” and ask you, if I may, what is in the tall glass in the logo drawing & your picture? You see, just as with The Church, I became Southron later in life also, in my 40’s, so there is still much for me to learn there, too.
I have enjoyed “talking with you” and hope very much to hear back from you. Either way, you will be in my prayers.
