On my journey into the church I became acquainted with many new friends (the saints). Some of these saints are officially declared by the Church and some are “unofficial” but have led exemplary lives and have incredible experience and wisdom to offer pilgrims in our daily Christian walk.
As we approach All Saints Day, I thought I would share with you some of my favorite quotes from some of my favorite “saints.” Each quote is a rich treasure and worthy of meditation. I hope there is one that provokes thought and perhaps change in you. Feel free to share your favorite quotes with us, too!
The measure of love is to love without measure. St. Augustine
If you seek to know where you are going, stay close to Christ, because he is the truth that we long to reach. St. Thomas Aquinas
As the tree is known by its fruit, so they who claim to belong to Christ are known by their actions; for the work of ours does not consist in just making professions, but in a faith that is both practical and lasting. St. Ignatius of Antioch
Yes: the wife and the mother is the radiant sun of the family. She is this sun by her generosity and gift of self, by her unfailing readiness, by her watchful and prudent delicacy in all matters which can add joy to the lives of her husband and her children. She spreads around her light and warmth. Pope Pius XII
Oh Christian, be aware of your nobility – it is God’s own nature that you share; do not then, by an ignoble life, fall back into your former baseness. Pope St. Leo the Great
It is not those who commit the least faults who are the most holy, but those who have the greatest courage, the greatest generosity, the greatest love, who make the boldest efforts to overcome themselves and are not immoderately apprehensive of tripping. St. Francis de Sales
We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love. Blessed Mother Theresa of Calcutta
Help me, O Lord, that my eyes may be merciful so that I may never suspect or judge from appearances, but look for what is beautiful in my neighbors’ souls and come to their rescue. St. Faustina Kowalska
My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing . . . Thomas Merton
