The folks at Andalusia farm, the peaceful and simple home of Flannery O’Connor from 1951-1964, just conducted a contest to name the 3 peafowl (collective name for both peacocks and peahens, in case you were wondering) that live on the property. As a stipulation, the names had to come from characters in O’Connor’s stories. For the one male and two female birds, the winning names were as follows:
Manley Pointer for the peacock
Joy Hulga and Mary Grace for the peahens
You can follow the happenings at Andalusia Farm on their website and blog. In addition, Atlanta resident Lorraine Murray has written a terrific book, The Abbess of Andalusia, about Ms. O’Connor’s faith and its influence on her writing and worldview.
